I so enjoyed reading this post, Ann. I was wondering how many other eighty-year-olds I’d find on Substack! My eightieth birthday passed by without a twinge because my daughter was getting married eleven days later, so everyone was preoccupied! I love what you said about relationships tending to strengthen with age. I’ve found that’s definitely the case with my family. I have three grandchildren, and they bring so much joy. This is definitely the most peaceful period of my life so far 😌
Thank you. There are a few of us around. I read Garrison Keillor, who is six months younger than me. You might enjoy my book of the same title (The Granny who Stands on her Head: Reflections on growing older) which is all about why I like being old and why I wouldn't wish to be young again. Not many of us are quite so forthright. See, for instance, https://debbieweil.substack.com/p/on-savoring-old-age-writing-and-sex.

Love this: “But it was enough. Our world shrinks somewhat as we age. But so do our expectations.”
