Well done Ann! 'Out of the mouth of babes...' "bits and bobs," no less. I've always been fascinated with atheists who seem to have a lot more faith than I do - 'there isn't a God' so they say. "Ahhhh... have you looked around and considered a newborn baby, or perhaps a magnificent flower? Really? And you're still going with 'no God'?" For a five-year-old to come up with "bits and bobs," is pretty darn incredible!

Well, how else would God have created the world? It needs to have come from something.

Said grandson is now 14 and doing complex stuff on his computer in the room next door (he stays with us many weekends and this is a three day weekend in the UK). I wonder if anyone who has read this will some day be in church and the minister is saying in a grand voice "And God created the world..." if they can avoid hearing 'from bits and bobs".

Lovely story, Ann. I'm 25 so no children or grandchildren to share stories of. But it's worth noticing that only children, who haven't yet been bathed in years of social norms and commonly accepted ideas, who can offer such pure and unique perspectives.

As a three / four year old my daughter used to sing her heart out at every opportunity we decided to make a cassette tape of her Christmas renditions for my parents one year. I could barely contain myself when a line in the Christmas carol “”Away in a manger “ was slightly altered into “ the little orb Jesus “

Christmas carols are a problem because we learn them orally. I always thought it was "join the trolley in the skies" (we had trolleys in Washington, DC and this made perfect sense).

I’m not English and often use the expression “bits and bobs.” Love the image of the dinosaur peeing on the table.

When my second son was 4 he became obsessed with death. First of all he asked: “what will happen to me when you die?”

When my first son was 4 he and I watched Churchill’s funeral on TV. I explained to him how famous Churchill was and one day he would be able to tell HIS children about it, to which he replied “when are they going to let that man out of that box?”
