Feeling Good with Yourself

The end of my promotion

Here are some roses just for you.

The period of my promotion (enabling you to make a smaller-than-otherwise donation to a brilliant shelter for the homeless) is coming to an end.

From the outset, I wondered on what basis I could encourage you to make a payment when you don’t get anything extra if you do.

I have so far suggested that:

1. It will give me a buzz

Just like this acer at the end of my garden, which gives me a buzz in full bloom.

Each paying subscriber goes deep to my heart. It says that you care enough about my writing to pay something for it. I was a professional writer for years, so I don’t need personal affirmation – but it is oh so nice to receive.

Each time someone buys one of my books or pays for a Substack subscription, I just feel good. I love it. I smile. I want to sing. The world just became a nicer place.

And

2. It is a wonderful place

This does not look like a place intended for the homeless. There is nothing dreary here. You can see for yourself. It’s cheerful and warm and everything one could hope for if one found oneself on the streets. People (‘guests’) are treated with kindness and dignity.

If I had been homeless and brought in here to sleep, I would wonder what I had done to deserve this. It would bring me hope.

And, my last suggestion is that

3. It will make you feel good with yourself

Doing good makes you feel good with yourself. If you have a little extra, it’s very satisfying to give to someone else who needs it more. The homeless need just about everything.

Sure, there are loads of things you could do to feel good with yourself – and maybe you do enough already– but this one is very convenient. You don’t have to search out the right person or the right cause.

It is right here for you. Just press a button and help a wonderful small charity do its wonderful stuff.

I don’t have the perfect picture for feeling good with yourself – I thought about a halo, but that is too corny – so I am offering you the roses at the top of the post.

You deserve them.

THIS YEAR I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GIVE THE SHELTER OVER £600 ($750). This pays for a lot of meals, laundry and cleaning. With only four paid staff, everything else is done by volunteers.
